History

Chak Yan Centre School commenced operation in September 1974, running classes for children from Primary 3 to Primary 6 with special educational needs. The School was officially opened by former Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Crawford Murray Maclehose, on 28 October in the same year with 165 placements. Extension work to a secondary section completed in 1983 with an addition of 120 placements for Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students. In 2009, the School offered the new senior secondary curriculum, in which the first cohort of Secondary 6 students sat for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education examination in 2012.

Through tailor-made curriculum, individual counselling, and personal and social education curriculum, the School helps students recapture education, pick up social interaction skills and establish a proper learning attitude.

The School Extension Project completed in 2001, alongside the donation of school bus from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in April. In June, the Multimedia Learning Centre was established with the grant from the Quality Education Fund. At the end of 2003, part of the campus was demolished and the school hall was reconstructed. The new school hall opened in mid-2006.
